Unmasking the Inner Critic: Reclaiming Self-Worth

For so many of us, life has been shaped by a harsh inner voice, the one that whispers (or shouts) that we’re not good enough, that we have to keep everyone else happy, that our needs are “too much.”

Maybe you’ve spent years apologising for things that weren’t your fault. Smiling on the outside while collapsing in exhaustion at home. Secretly bingeing or eating for comfort, then drowning in shame afterwards. Or saying yes when every part of you wanted to say no, just to keep the peace.

Over time, this critic becomes so familiar that we stop questioning it. We wear a mask for the world and keep our struggles hidden, even from ourselves.

Please hear me when I say: there’s nothing wrong with you, you’ve just been carrying too much for too long. You’ve been surviving in the best ways you knew how. And with the right support, it’s possible to quiet that inner critic and begin reclaiming your sense of self-worth.

That’s why I created Unmasking the Inner Critic: Reclaiming Self-Worth an 8-week group therapy course designed to help you step out from behind the mask, understand where that harsh voice came from, and begin to build a kinder relationship with yourself.

What the journey looks like

Each week, we’ll come together in a safe, supportive group space to explore different themes. Along the way, there’ll be guided reflections, creative exercises, and gentle practices to help you connect more deeply with yourself and with others who truly understand.

Here’s a glimpse of the journey:

  • Week 1 – Welcome + Making the Invisible Visible

Exploring the hidden cost of self-hate and the masks we wear. Beginning to build safety and community.

  • Week 2 – Meet the Inner Critic

Tracing the roots of that harsh voice and noticing how it once tried to protect you.

  • Week 3 – The People Pleaser + Boundary Blur

Looking at guilt, saying no, and practising what it feels like to take up space.

  • Week 4 – Self-Sabotage + Procrastination

Understanding why we get stuck, and reframing “lazy” as scared, tender, and human.

  • Week 5 – Reclaiming the Self

Reconnecting with the parts of you that got buried beneath rules and roles.

  • Week 6 – Body, Food + Emotional Suppression

Gently exploring the tangle between body image, eating struggles, and unspoken feelings.

  • Week 7 – Self-Compassion + Emotional Regulation

Learning grounding and soothing skills, practical tools for daily life.

  • Week 8 – Integration + Celebration

Honouring your growth, sharing what’s shifted, and celebrating your steps towards self-worth.

Who this group is for

This group is for anyone who feels weighed down by self-criticism, people-pleasing, or shame, and who longs to feel more at home in themselves.

You don’t need to have it all “figured out” to join. You just need a willingness to show up, with all the parts of you that are ready to be seen.

A different way forward

If you’ve lived with your inner critic for years, you might not yet believe another way is possible. But in this group, you’ll be reminded week after week that:

  • You are not too much, you’ve just had to hold too much.

  • Your struggles are not evidence of weakness, but of how hard you’ve been trying.

  • You don’t need fixing. You deserve understanding.

  • You are worthy of compassion, belonging, and trust in yourself.

If something inside you is whispering “this might be for me,” I’d love to welcome you into the next group.

Next group starts Wednesday 17th September 2025
