Welcome to Julie McClorey Counselling

Helping you build a kinder relationship with yourself through trauma - informed therapy.

You don’t have to keep battling yourself.

If you’re exhausted by self-criticism, constantly questioning yourself or relying on ways of coping that no longer feel helpful, you’re not alone.

Therapy isn’t about fixing you.

It’s about understanding you.

Together we’ll gently explore the experiences, beliefs and survival strategies that have shaped your relationship with yourself, helping you move towards greater self-compassion, confidence and long lasting change.

‍ ‍

Do any of these feel familiar?

You might not use the words self-worth or shame to describe what you’re experiencing.

Instead it might feel more like this:-

  • You’re constantly questioning yourself or worrying you’ve got it wrong.

  • You feel like you’re never quite enough, no matter how hard you try.

  • You put everyone else’s needs before your own and you struggle to say no.

  • You rely on food, perfectionism, keeping busy or other ways of coping just to get through difficult days.

  • You’re exhausted from battling yourself and wish life felt easier.

  • You long to feel calmer, more confident, and more like yourself again.

Maybe there isn’t anything wrong with you.

Many of the ways we cope begin as ways of surviving.

Together, we’ll gently explore how your relationship with yourself has been shaped over time, not to judge it, but to understand it with compassion.

Because when we understany why we’ve learned to survive in certain ways, lasting change becomes possible through compassion rather than criticism.

Your Relationship with Yourself

When your inner critic has become louder than your self-compassion.

Together we’ll gently explore the beliefs and experiences that have shaped the way you see yourself.

How Can I Help

You don’t need to have all the answers before starting therapy. These are some of the areas we might explore together.

Trauma & Past Experiences

When the past still feels as though it’s shaping the present.

Together we’ll gently make sense of your experiences at a pace that feels safe, helping you move towards greater understanding, healing and self-compassion.

Emotional Eating & Binge Eating

When food has become a way of coping rather than simply nourishing.

Without judgement or rigid rules, we’ll explore the emotional needs beneath your relationship with food and begin building a more compassionate way forward.

People-Pleasing & Boundaries

When saying “yes” to everyone else has meant losing sight of yourself.

We’ll explore where those patterns began, helping you find your voice, set healthier boundaries and reconnect with your own needs.

Ways We Learn to Cope

When surviving has started to feel exhausting.

Whether that’s staying busy, withdrawing, drinking, usimg substances, dissociating or other ways of coping, we’ll gently explore what those strategies have been protecting you from.

Perfectionism & Overthinking

When your mind never seems to switch off.

If you’re constantly questioning yourself, striving to get everything “right” or feeling overwhelmed by self-doubt, we’ll work together to understand what’s driving those patterns.

You don’t have to know exactly what you’re looking for before reaching out.

Whether you’ve recognised yourself in one of these areas or you’re simply feeling stuck, you’re welcome to get in touch for a free introductory call.
